NOTE: (2010-12-23) - 19:1-10 - Jesus, and God in Him, show their wonderful plan for our salvation. Zachaeus fits into their plan. Jesus came to save the lost - the unrighteous - and in spite of murmuring by the self-righteous - He by-passes them for such as Zachaeus.
19:11-28 - Jesus returned to heaven - a far country - after becoming a ransomfor our souls - and after a long time, 2000 years - will return to reward His saints, and judge the wicked and unfaithful.
There are 5 sins that would keep Israel out of Canaan - and the same five will keep us out of heaven. They are Lust, Idolatry, Fornication, Tempting Christ, and Murmuring. Edwin Louis Cole in his book “Maximized Manhood” - a Guide to Family Survival - deals thoroughly with each of these. Consider what he says on “Fornication” - “Actually this includes every kind of sex sin. Sin is still sin. No matter how you spell it. Fornication is popular and sexual promiscuity is acceptable everywhere today - except in the Bible. No wonder men want to burn it, deny it, or crucify it. The Word still sets the standard of faith, gives the rule of conduct, and reveals the character of God.
“Reading about Samson, King David, and others in Scripture is in itself a vital lesson concerning the result of sex sins. But, the roll call goes on today. Man after man, who in many areas of life develop the potential of their manhood, are limited because of their sex sins.
“Both single and married men - young and old - are subject to the desires, appetites, passions, and temptations that take their toll and prohibit them from becoming what God intends them to be.
“Men's ministries are undeveloped or lost. Men's characters are underdeveloped or weak. God's promise to sit with Him on His throne is given to those called overcomers. Overcomers are godly achievers. Every man is given opportunity to enter his Canaan, to develop his potential of manhood to the maximum.
“When the men of Israel committed fornication, they died in the wilderness, never seeing Canaan. Men still die in their wilderness, bogged down in a moral morass, missing God's best for their lives.
Our doctrine of last things - “Eschatology” - needs to be adjusted by this section. The Kingdom of :God was notto immediately appear in Jesus' day on earth - nor for the last two millennia. See how this parable fits in with Daniel 7:13-l4 - “I saw in the night-visions, and, behold, there came with the clouds of heaven one like unto a son of man, and he came even to the ancient of days, and they brought him near before him. 14And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, and languages should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.”
It is important for us to discern the two major aspects of the Kingdom of God. We today are in the reign of God's invisible Kingdom. The Holy Spirit reigns now in our hearts, not openly. When Jesus soon returns with the Kingdom given to Him by the Father - then it will be manifested on earth for 1000 years, with Israel as the chief nation on earth under the Lord Jesus - a Jew - as King of kings and Lord of lords. Rewards to nations will be how they treated His people during this 2000 year invisible time. I fear it will fare badly with most goat nations!
Jesus will also judge us as individuals in righteous judgment. We will all be like the wise thief on the cross with Him. He challenged the foolish thief - by pointing out that they two as thieves deserved the cross - but notJesus - He was the completely innocent Lamb of God. We all will know like the open thief - that whatever He does will be entirely just. So His promise to the one was - Today- you will be with in in Paradise! Salvation is just like that! Repent - believe - and ask Jesus to save you - and it is doneat thatmoment. It is notdone by our good works or anything else - it is done only by our faith in what Jesus did for us at Calvary! J.A.W.
